Sunday 24th July. Midday

We all crashed out on the flight to Windhoek.  Just desert and scrub looking down.  Arrived at Windhoek around 11.00 and it was all a bit surreal.  Met our tour guide rep Desree (Richard took a shine to her immediately) and we loaded up the minibus.  Then off down the road for a 45km drive to the city.  Dead straight roads and nothing but scrub.  Might have to get used to this.  Saw a huge buzzard and a troupe of baboons scampered infront of us.  Tingey said those big red bottoms look familiar.  Checked in at the Pension Cori just outside the city, and then went for an orientation tour.  Everything shut!  Very quiet everywhere.  Strange we are so used to everything being open on a Sunday.  Visited the Christukirche and the Parialment building.  Wandererd through Zoo Park and Dave  chatted to some locals as though he knew them.  Himba women were selling local crafts on the street corner.  Then off to familiar territory – the bar.  Found the Hilton Hotel had a skybar so plonked ourselves by the infinity pool and got stuck into the local brew – Windhoek Larger.  Spectacular views over the city which lived up to its name as it was very windy!  Back to the Pension Cori and we all crashed out again.  Next stop Joe’s (legendary) Beerhouse for dinner….
